I love this photo from the Walton's. The mother and daughter are enjoying a chat with a cup of hot tea. My girls enjoy getting Starbucks now and then, but truly, I think doing that too often is just a waste of money. We can make coffee and tea at home that is very good, and does not cost $5.00 or more a cup! When my husband and I eat out, we almost always drink water, unless the drink comes with the meal. I like doing this not just to save money, but because it is better for you. I do have a little soda now and then, but I drink it from a small cup and only once in a while. I like to say it is what we do 90% of the time that counts. I also think just spending time with our family and friends is a blessing, and time that truly means so much. Time is the greatest gift we can give each other. The moments we share are what make our lives special. My cousin Teri, just did a post on her blog about front porch sitting. I love how she values the simple things in life. If you would like to see her blog, it is at this address. terilong.blogspot.com
We just had lunch today with some friends who are a wonderful inspiration to me. They live a very frugal life and don't waste their resources. They travel and enjoy their life and one another. Surrounding ourselves with people who inspire us can help us to reach our goals, what ever they may be.
One of my favorite things in shows such as Little House or the Walton's was when they would go to town and go to the store. They would not impulse buy, but rather go with a list and get only what they needed. I am not saying that I don't ever want to spend money, just that I want to be conscious of what I spend our money on. Asking myself first, is it a need or a want, is it in our budget, is it good quality, is this an impulse buy, or something I have planned to purchase. Just putting these sorts of questions in the front of my mind is helping me to reach my goal of being more thrifty.
Another thing I hope to be thrifty with is my time. This is one reason I like to use my planner, and make my daily lists. Time is valuable and we should consider budgeting our time, just as we budget our money. Well, I hope everyone has a nice weekend. I have been enjoying some cozy home time, but I am missing my girls. (They are staying a couple of weeks with my parents.) Thanks for stopping by my little space. Hugs to you. Juli
I love this post! I first thought that was your kitchen in the top picture and I was admiring it so much! I didn't recognize it as the Walton's kitchen. These are good thoughts and I think we can learn a lot from the old ways.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved the Walton's kitchen, it is so homey and simple. Thank you for your kind words, and for visiting my little space. Have a good weekend. Hugs. Juli

Hi Billie Jo. I can't tell you how much this comment touches my heart. My children just went back to school today. I have just been soaking in the last bits of them being home with me. I actually am going to do a post this afternoon. I was just telling my girls the other day about you, and how we are friends even though we have never met in real life. Thank you for your friendship. Hugs to you. Juli
